Common Vein Disorders

Vein disorders affect approximately half of the people in Orange County, and can produce both cosmetic and medical symptoms. The appearance of varicose veins, spider veins, or reticular veins can make you feel self-conscious, and detract from your efforts to appear healthy and youthful. The pain and discomfort from these conditions also can restrict your physical activity and mobility.

Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are large, bluish veins that have a bulging, rope-like appearance. These generally affect the thighs and lower legs, and may cause pain and discomfort. In Orange County, varicose veins are one of the most common vein disorders for which men and women seek treatment.

Spider Veins

Spider veins are tiny, superficial, purplish veins that generally present in clustered formations. They are easily visible, and occur most commonly on the thighs, lower legs, and ankles. These are often fed by a larger, reticular vein.

Reticular Veins

Reticular veins are medium sized, flat, blue-green veins which are easily visible beneath the surface of the skin. They tend to form a web-like pattern, most commonly on the back of the thigh or knee area.

Venous Insufficiency

Venous insufficiency is a condition in which the veins in the legs are unable to effectively return the blood upward toward the heart. This results in uncomfortable and unsightly swelling of the lower legs, and is often accompanied by varicose veins.

At their convenient Orange County offices, Dr. Richard J. Fischel and Dr. John P. Maurice specialize in the treatment of a wide variety of vein disorders, including those listed above. Both are board-certified cardiovascular surgeons who have done extensive research, training, and practice in the field of vascular disease. They utilize the latest technology and information to properly identify the vein disorder and determine the appropriate treatment options. Many of their patients suffer from more than one vascular condition, and Drs. Fischel and Maurice have the knowledge and experience to successfully treat both the superficial symptoms and the larger underlying condition.
