Boards and Societies

The American Board of Surgery (ABS)

Drs. Fischel and Maurice are both diplomates of The American Board of Surgery, an independent, non-profit organization that certifies surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training and knowledge. Surgeons certified by the ABS, known as diplomates, have completed a minimum of five years of surgical residency training following medical school and successfully completed a written and oral examination process administered by the ABS.

American College of Surgeons (ACS)

Both Dr. Fischel and Dr. Maurice are Fellows of the American College of Surgeons, a scientific and educational association of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to improve the quality of care for the surgical patient by setting high standards for surgical education and practice.

The American Board of Thoracic Surgery

Drs. Fischel and Maurice are both Diplomates of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, an organization whose purpose is to establish and maintain high standards in thoracic surgery. Surgeons certified by the ABTS must meet certain qualifications, including completion of an accredited thoracic surgery residency program and passage of a rigorous written exam administered by the Board.
